Description

Specific gravity is the ratio of the density (mass of a unit volume) of a substance to the density (mass of the same unit volume) of a reference substance. Specific gravity is commonly used in industry as a simple means of obtaining information about the concentration of solutions of various materials. Temperature is used along with Specific Gravity to calculate the %IPA in the OmegaMeter.

When you are trying to determine the %IPA of your Test Solution, you need to measure the Specific Gravity using a hydrometer and the Temperature using a thermometer of the Test Solution. It is these measurements that you type into the omegameter and the omegameter uses to calculate the percentage of IPA in the solution.

This Hydrometer features an allow shot and is durable, accurate and NIST traceable. The hydrometer is calibrated in a triple accredited ISO/IEC 17025:2005, A2LA accredited laboratory against equipment whose calibration is traceable to NIST.

This particular item is the Hydrometer placed inside of a Siphon Set. The Siphon set is a glass tube with plug and rubber suction bulb installed on the upper end, and rubber nozzle with clamp for the lower end. Rubber parts are made of nitrile, a synthetic rubber that is more chemical resistant and more durable than conventional rubber. With this set, you can siphon the Extract Solution into the tube and then view the specific gravity on the hydrometer. If you are using a hydrometer without a Siphon Set, then you have to place the hydrometer inside the test cell, view the results, and then reach in and remove the hydrometer. Removing the the hydrometer from the test cell may not be so easy as some test cells are only 2" (50mm) wide. The Hydrometer and Siphon Set combination eliminates this problem and makes it much easier to take a measurement.
